Daemon Invasion, Baby!

Over the last couple of weeks, you’ve heard us talking about the upcoming #daemoninvasion and we’re so excited to finally share with you what is going on.

Really excited.

The beautiful and uber cool models, Pepe Toth and Sztella Tziotziosz, who grace the Lux covers, will be joining us in the United States!

You heard right.  They are flying here, from Hungary to spend a few days as Daemon and Katy!
While they are here, they will be working with Vania, from VLC Productions (the team behind Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments, Melissa de La Cruz, Kimberly Derting, Moira Young, Kami Garcia and Margret Stohl, Hillary Duff, Lauren Destefano, and many, many more authors’ book trailers), to film book trailers for the Lux Series.

During the filming in Atlanta, they will be accompanying us on tour! What does that mean? You get to meet them. In the flesh. They will be participating in the signings and events. At those signings, we’ll be giving away signed posters, photos, and other swag. There will also be meet and greet events you can join in on.

At each signing, there will be advanced copies of Onyx given away!

And to top things off (as if this isn’t enough, but we don’t do anything small), there’s something very, very exciting in the works! It involves advanced copies of Opal, water, and a little destination known as the Bahamas.

I am not kidding.

This will be epic.

Aare you excited? I am! This tour is going to be so, so much fun, and I’m so thrilled that Pepe and Sztella are a part of it. We owe them a huge thank you and a giant welcome making the 16 hour flight to meet the readers of the Lux Series.  You!

Going Under by Georgia Cates

"Jessie Boone is a self proclaimed bad boy and doesn’t march to the beat of anyone’s drum, but his own.
Growing up in less than desirable circumstances has made him no stranger to the hard knock life and his determination to leave it behind is fierce. When he finds himself transferred to East Franklin High School, he sees his opportunity to use his athletic ability to snag a college football scholarship, but Forbes Henderson, the player Jessie means to replace isn’t giving up his spot willingly. In fact, Forbes is willing to go to extreme measures to retain his place as first string quarterback. When Forbes’ malicious plan to injure his replacement fails, Jessie is furious and determined to show him he messed with the wrong person; not only is he going to take the position of first string quarterback, he’s going to take his girl, too.

Claire Deveraux is perfection at it’s best.
She is beautiful, intelligent and unaware she just became Jessie Boone’s conquest as revenge against her boyfriend, Forbes Henderson. Like her flawless performance as the perfect daughter and student, Claire’s production of being the perfect girlfriend has everyone fooled, except Jessie Boone, and she fears this tattooed bad boy will see her secret desire to explore his crude threats and promises to rock her perfect world. If she decides to give in to one uninhibited moment with Jessie, will she learn too late that it was all an act of vengeance or will Jessie learn the taste of first love is sweeter than that of revenge?
"

So here's what I think.

First off, I brought this book because it had interesting reviews on amazon, plus hello, the price for the book was ridiculously cheap considering how good it looked.
The story is good enough to attract any YA reader, the prospect of a rough bad boy colliding with a miss perfect in high school spells for some good readin'.
The chemistry between the 2 main characters, Claire and Jessie, was undeniable from the beginning, and it's really great to that the author lets us into both of their minds through alternative narratives.

The voices...
Claire was a bit of a challenging character for me to understand. I guess it was because she took some questionable actions that really makes you think. I kept asking myself why she would stay with her douchebag boyfriend Forbes when he was obviously a git, even before she'd met Jessie. Plus it was an indication of how loyal she was when she was willing to ditch him so fast in order to discover things with Jessie. Overall though she was a like-able girl, it's easy to put yourself into her shoes and she was definitely great with Jessie.
Her relationship with best friend Payton was also very amusing, Payton being the smartass of the duo, although she had annoying tendencies to say as many cliché lines I would've thought possible in one book. That being said, she was still quite a loveable addition to the book, I would actually love to see her star in a story of her own!

Jessie, oh Jessie. Yes, he was yum. He's rough on the outside but warm on the inside, much like a freshly baked cookie, and it was adorable how quickly he became helpless for his feelings for Claire. Plus, he's definitely the martyr, it really made you feel for him when he sacrificed his relationship with Claire because of who he is/his background. I have to say, by the end of the book I felt like we'd lost touch of the easygoing Jessie from the beginning, but that just made it all the more raw.

The story...
I think the story progressed very finely, although it turned quite difficult at the end. There's a confusing cliff-hangerish ending which was resolved in the epilogue chapter, but I think this was a bit disappointing because the first ending between the hero and heroine was very abrupt and unexpected, and then you flash forward many years in the epilogue which I think is a bit of a wasted opportunity for a better ending.
As much as I really really hate comparing books, I do have to admit this had vibes of Perfect Chemistry throughout the story. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I think they both take different routes at times, but still it shows the danger of a predictable storyline.

I don't feel this book needs anything else added to it. It was quite a sweet story to read and very much worth the price the author asks to buy it, so I definitely recommend spending the money for a great read!
Plus I'd be really interested in reading a story about Payton (Claire's bestie) in the future simply because she was an interesting character with potential, so fingers crossed and let's hope the author's listening!
